Pertinent quotations
"... he [the human] often forgets the true nature of his planet and
the long vistas of its history, in which the existence of the race of
men has occupied a mere moment of time.",
Rachel L. Carson, The Sea Around Us, 1950.
"Nature uses only the longest threads to weave her patterns, so
that each small piece of her fabric reveals the organization of
the entire tapestry."
Richard P. Feynman,
conclusion of the first
Messenger Lecture
of 1964, Cornell University.

Web Pages
These Web pages originated in 2001 using the HTML
module in Oberon running on a 80486-DX PC.
2004-08-20 the hardware was upgraded to a salvaged Pentium 1.
The machines which maintain and serve the Web pages have
negligible value in the marketplace.

- The compressor for our -20 C walk-in freezer
in July of 2004.
Note the thick ice on the accumulator to the right of the compressor.
After the accumulator was insulated and other insulation was improved,
this picture was taken. Ice remained on the EPR,
elbows, along the side of the suction line and around the base of the
accumulator. Eventually the source of the water was found to be
a few pinholes in a 1/2" copper water line. The copper corroded
very slowly and defect was not easy to spot.
